Have you thought what hormone is responsible for the way you feel mentally? Serotonin is the feel good hormone that balances our mood, feelings and state of well-being. This hormone should not be underestimated as it impacts your entire body. Serotonin also helps, reduce depression and anxiety, heal wounds, stimulate nausea, maintain bone health and is responsible for our sleeping, eating and digestion.

Serotonin is well known as a brain neurotransmitter, yet new studies shows 90% of serotonin is produced in the digestive tract. The digestive tract is known as the second brain and is why gut health is so important for mental wellbeing and overall health. Feeding and enhancing our gut bacteria (gut microbiomes) can help boost the way you feel both physically and mentally.

Fermented foods, Turkey, eggs, cheese, pineapple, tofu, nuts & seeds all contain tryptophan, an essential amino acid which helps your body produce serotonin.

Low levels of serotonin can affect your mental, and physical well-being. To optimise make sure you exercise regularly, get some sunshine (when you can) and eat a balanced diet to feel healthy and happy. Remember.. a healthy gut bug is a happy gut bug!
